Marble No Grout Lines

Grout is a necessary and integral part of many tile jobs for several reasons.

I am redoing a master bath and we will be doing cararra marble. Many homeowners prefer the appearance of ungrouted tile. You will be butting the tiles up. Today my tile installer told me that you don t have grout lines with marble tile.

As you work be very careful to avoid the edges of the tiles themselves as you do not want to chip or scratch them. Laying a marble floor without grout is possible so long as proper care is taken to assure your layout is perfectly square. This can kick up a lot of grout dust so make sure the area is well ventilated. Using a grout saw or an electric tool such as a dremel with an appropriate attachment begin to remove the grout from between the marble tiles.

I have done two other baths in the past with the same material and both times we have had grout lines. For most granite and marble tile i install i use either 1 32 or 1 16 inch grout lines.

I have never heard of this before. Grout works to prevent moisture and detritus from entering and getting stuck in the grout joints. In most other tile i will use 1 16 or 1 8 inch lines. Marble tile no grout lines.
